Description
Mohawk Oil Company, Bakersfield, California - Circa 1920's. This Mohawk "Down Feather" variation is one of the most desirable petroliana signs in existence with only a handful of examples known. Incredibly rare DSP (double sided porcelain) sign with very good color and gloss. The display side has areas of touch up on top of the Indian's head, lower feather and neckline with several spots in and around the lettering. The touch ups are color matched very well. The white background in the field has areas of crazing and small scratches. The outer black border of the sign has been repainted. The reverse is very similar with additional touch ups in the lettering. The Down Feather is believed to date around or prior to the brand's acquisition by California Petroleum in 1925 or a later reorganization in 1928. This particular graphic is only known to exist on this sign and a smaller paddle sign. A true centerpiece to any petroliana collection. 27.5" D. Condition: 7.9 & 7.5. All items are guaranteed authentic by Richmond Auctions. Free delivery is offered to either the Indy Ad Show or AACA Fall Hershey Flea Market. Please contact us immediately following the auction if you need delivery to one of the shows listed above.
