Description
Highly prized die cut SSP (single sided porcelain) 4-piece neon sign with working clock and thermometer has excellent color. The sign is mounted in a new metal can and features four color neon with alternating wing neon which gives the illusion of Pegasus flying. The sign has amazing documented provenance and once sat atop the Chester Toll Booth for the Chester Bridge. The sign boasts a vibrant Pegasus graphic in the upper field which has excellent color and gloss. The white background in the field has general wear with etched porcelain and areas of discoloration. The sign has areas of chipping in the fields and perimeter. The lower clock and thermometer further add to the sign and feature a green neon surround. The bridge opened in 1942 and was reconstructed in 1944 after the main span was destroyed by a storm. A manufacturer plaque marked Neon Sign Corp. Herrin Illinois adorns the field along with another factory mark along the lower edge. All in all an impressive and historically significant Mobil neon sign featuring the iconic Mobil Pegasus. 91.5" H x 132" W x 8.75" D. Condition: 8.
