Description
Amazing DSP (double sided porcelain) Coke neon sign with factory bullnose, metal can and lower "Tuxedo" SST (single sided tin) signs have day one color and gloss. Based on the trademark logo we believe this to be one of the earlier known factory neons from Coca-Cola. It is believed to have hung in front of the Tuxedo Dance Hall in New Orleans. The original Tuxedo Dance Hall was located in New Orleans’ red-light district, and served (along with several competitors) as the birthplace of ragtime and Jazz. This hall hosted a number of musicians who would later become famous, such as Louis Armstrong, Johnny St. Cyr, and Zutty Singleton. This extraordinarily rare sign was made by Industrial Electric Company (later renamed Industrial Electric, Inc.) of New Orleans, LA. Industrial Electric made many famous signs in New Orleans, including the iconic and massive (and still lighted) 126 foot tall Falstaff Brewery Weather Tower. The sign features unique "Candy Cane" bullnose stripes with green stripes along the upper and lower edges of the sign. The display has a clean field with minor discoloration in the upper outer field and tiny chips along the outer edges. The reverse is very similar to the display with a factory discoloration in the right field in the "C" of Cola. The lower "Tuxedo" tin signs on each side show factory paint with general wear throughout. The factory bullnose ends are in excellent condition. The sign features three color neon and the factory can is in very good condition with oxidation. Overall an exceedingly rare Coca-Cola neon sign. 36" H x 67" W x 15" D. Condition: 9.5/9.0+.
